StudioTools Documentation
StudioTools is a menu bar app for the Mac that keeps your studio in sync with Logic Pro and Pro Tools — and helps you look after the audio files your sessions produce. This guide explains each part of the app, and the audio concepts behind them.
The parts of StudioTools
Everything starts from the StudioTools icon in the menu bar. Each feature can be used on its own.
Media Manager
Browse folders of WAV, AIFF and CAF files: preview, find and convert dual-mono files, edit metadata and measure loudness.
New in 2.3Connect your DAW
Set up Logic Pro or Pro Tools so StudioTools knows when you record, play or arm tracks.
Studio automation
Turn recording state into actions: Philips Hue, IKEA, Matter, webhooks, MQTT and your own scripts.
Video Studio Beta
Record several cameras at once, in sync and with your studio sound, started and stopped by your DAW.
StudioTools Connect
The iPhone and iPad companion: transport control and a lyrics teleprompter in the booth.
Settings & configuration
General settings, the JSON editor, and managed configurations for shared studio Macs.
Understand the concepts
New to loudness meters or Broadcast Wave files? These pages explain the background in plain language — useful whether or not you use StudioTools.
Audio files & formats
WAV, AIFF, CAF, sample rate, bit depth, channels — and why dual mono wastes space.
Broadcast Wave (BWF)
The WAV extension that tells Pro Tools where a clip belongs on the timeline.
Audio metadata
Where titles, artists and comments live inside WAV, AIFF and CAF files, and who reads them.
Loudness (LUFS)
LUFS, loudness range, true peak and the EBU R128 standard — and the targets streaming services use.
